1. How to access HFSS via vlabs

This semester you will be doing a design project using ANSYS modeling tool. Here are the options as to how you can access this software:

• It is available in all the engineering academic labs

ANSYS HFSS software is the industry-standard simulation tool for 3-D full-wave electromagnetic field simulation and is essential for the design of high-frequency and high-speed component design. THEN CLICK ON HFSS and you will see this. DOUBLE CLICK ON GEOETRY IN THE HFSS DESIGN BOX THAT APPEARs- THEN THAT SHOULD OPEN U THE ELECTRONICS DESKTOP WHICH IS YOUR MAIN HFSS WORK AREA AND PROGRAM! YOU WILL SEE THIS: UPDATE: If you are having a problem starting ANSYS Electronics Desktop and HFSS.

• You may also go here:vabs.uml.eduand use it from anywhere in the world on any device. The login is your e-mail account and you choose vlabs engineering. You can choose either client or HTML, the client install is for people who have their own PC.

1. YOu must log on with your email credentials (full email address, includingstudent.uml.edu part)
2. CHoose VLABS Engineering
3. Once the client comes up, go to start and go to ANSYS menu GO to Workbench and within Workbench click HFSS. Once there, click on Geometry (or someting else in the menu of the HFSS) and then the Electronics Desktop will open up. That is HFSS!!!
4. then go to Insert HFSS Design and begin to play:)
5. you must log off from client (oeprating system) so that no license problems come up

• For those students who have MACs, you have 2 choices:

  a. Darren can put VM on the MAC and run windows which will cut their resources in half.

  b. Use vlabs at vlabs.uml.edu(described above)

Here are the steps: when you log on—go to Program files and open up Ansys and you should see this:

UPDATE:

If you are having a problem starting ANSYS Electronics Desktop and HFSS. The issue stems from a known bug in R17.0, which is the version they have available. Here is how you might fix this problem.

If you launch ANSYS Electronics Desktop, and see Simplorer in the title bar, complete these steps:

1. Close down Simplorer.
2. In Windows Explorer or My Computer, browse to the user directory, and the Documents folder. Under there, open the Ansoft folder. In there, DELTE the the ElectronicsDesktop2016.0 folder.
3. Start ANSYS Electronics Desktop.
